Hey LiveJournal - long time no see

Nov. 5th, 2009 | 11:32 am

I'm posting at LiveJournal as I'm boycotting Facebook for a day. Facebook changed it's UI for the worse a week or so ago. Someone organized an online boycott. Me and probably 10 or so (!!) other Facebookers are boycotting today.

A friend of mine needs help

Oct. 5th, 2009 | 02:24 pm

http://www.helpgerrygibbs.com/

A friend of mine is facing $60,000 in dental bills. In this day of universal health care, I'd like to show that charity doesn't require the government pointing a gun at our heads.

Please help if you can.

The Facebook borg and the future of blogs

Aug. 11th, 2009 | 12:50 pm

I've noticed that almost everyone I know (and many I haven't heard from in decades) are on Facebook. Also, many people who used to post here don't anymore or do so infrequently. I find myself posting to FB first these days - my thoughts reach more people. But, I still see value in this blog. Facebook is like a bar - lots of quick short conversations that get lost minutes after they're said (you can scroll into the past, but it's not common). I like the permanence of this blog. It's mostly a compendium of my political thoughts in a diary form.

It'd be nice to be able to cross-post to both when I want to. I tried Posterous but it's not very good. Are there any other good cross-posting tools? I guess I could write one. Maybe I will...

I guess Posterous isn't working :(

Aug. 9th, 2009 | 06:32 pm

I've made several posts using Posterous. They made it to Facebook, but not here. Time to find something else.

Obama is shaming the USA by supporting despots

Jul. 6th, 2009 | 02:46 pm

President Obama's lack of vigorous condemnation of Iran was terrible, but his continued support of the proto-dictator in Honduras is truly shameful.

Testing of Posterous

I'm testing a new service called Posterous that allows me to post to my blog, Facebook, etc. all at once.

Dark day for freedom

Al Franken has been declared the winner in Minnesota. This means that the Dems have a filibuster-proof majority in the Sentate. I shudder...

Rest In Peace: Billy Mays

Jun. 29th, 2009 | 11:05 am

http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/TV/06/29/mays.death/index.html?section=cnn_latest

I really admired Billy Mays. He embodied many great qualities of America. He was a self-made man, an innovator, and unendingly positive. I always got a laugh out of his commercials. I love TV pitchmen. I just can't take my eyes off of them. There are TV pitchmen - and then there was Billy Mays. He was the best of the best. I gained additional appreciation for him watching his show "Pitchmen". I'll really miss him.

Will we ever know the full extent of Iran's brutality

Jun. 25th, 2009 | 11:55 am

Iran's evil leadership is squelching information as much as possible. The reports that are filtering out depict horrible brutality.

Barack Obama shameful coward

Jun. 17th, 2009 | 06:40 pm

As Iranians protest in the streets in the face of violent retaliation from the Iranian Government, we hear no support from the administration. Worse, we hear mushy measured platitudes.

Horrible regulation begets even more horrible regulation

Jun. 17th, 2009 | 02:47 pm

President Obama today proposed a huge new regulatory system to be placed on the already insanely regulated financial industry: http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2009/06/17/obamas-financial-reform-plan-the-condensed-version/ The two main culprits of the current financial mess, Senators Dodd and Frank are enthusiastic.

Every day I think we've hit rock bottom with this damned administration and each new day we descend lower.

I've been a Saab fan forever. I buy cars and hold 'em. I'm on my second Saab. I had the first for 8 years (900T), and my current one (9-5 Aero Wagon) is 9 years old.

Happy day!!!

Bill Ayers on C-SPAN

Jun. 7th, 2009 | 09:40 pm

I'm watching Bill Ayers on C-SPAN's In Depth program. This is a disgusting person. The worst thing is his equivocation on his terrorist past. An email question came in asking why he doesn't apologize about, and I quote, "his past in bomb making and terrorism." Ayers then talked at length about how wrong the war was, who was against the war, etc. At no point did he say he didn't make bombs nor did apologize. He only said "I did what I did... I've never said ... what we did was right or perfect ... But, people who did nothing were wrong."

A racist for the SCOTUS

May. 28th, 2009 | 01:29 pm

Read the whole thing and weep: http://abcnews.go.com/images/Politics/Berkeley_La%20Raza_2002.pdf

Choice quotes:

"No one person, judge or nominee will speak in a female or people of color voice."

"I accept the proposition that … there is no objective stance but only a series of perspectives …"

"…seminal decisions in race and sex discrimination cases have come from Supreme Courts composed exclusively of white males."

Justice O'Connor said "a wise old man and wise old woman will reach the same conclusion in deciding cases … I am not so sure that I agree …"
